Creating your own Launchpad account lets you contribute to a wide range of open source software projects, in several ways:

• reporting and commenting on bugs
• creating and commenting on feature specifications (blueprints)
• translating into different languages
• asking for and offering help
• viewing and contributing code.

Step by step guide

Step 1: Visit [https://launchpad.net launchpad.net] in your web browser.

Step 2: Click Log In / Register in the top right corner of the page.

Step 3: In the Not registered yet? section, enter your email address in the E-mail address text-box, then click Register.

attachment:note.png Launchpad may already know about you, from changelogs, imported bug reports, or other records. If you've contributed to a project that is registered in Launchpad - for example, by reporting a bug - Launchpad may have a record of your existence. If this is the case, to claim that record as your own, read our guide to ["Claiming your Launchpad account"].

Step 4: Within a few minutes, you'll receive an email from Launchpad with the subject line "Finish your Launchpad registration". To continue your registration, click the link in the body of the email.

This will open the Complete your registration page in your web browser.

Step 5: You can choose the name that other Launchpad users see when they view your profile and contributions. Enter your preferred name in the Display name text-box.

Step 6: To hide your registered email addresses from other Launchpad users, select the Hide my email addresses from other Launchpad users check-box.

Step 7: Enter then confirm the password you want to use with your Launchpad account. When you're done, click Continue.

Once your new account has been created, it will be confirmed at the top of the page.

What to do next

Now that you have a Launchpad account, you can tell other Launchpad users about yourself on your profile page.
