A bug tracker is an essential part for ensuring the quality in a software project. The bug tracker in Launchpad helps projects to keep track of all the bugs found in the software, makes sure that the right people gets notified about the problem, and helps keeping track of the most important bugs to be fixed.

It doesn't only keep track of bugs in a single piece of software; it's possible to link to bugs other projects as well, allowing for easier cross-project collaboration. The bug tracker has both an outgoing and incoming email interface, as well as support for tracking private bugs. It's designed to scale from small projects with only one developer, up to large projects such as [http://bugs.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu Ubuntu].
